MACRO MONDAY ~ DANISH COOKIES

These tiny cookies are always baked around Christmastime. They are called Peppernuts and are quite spicy for such a small cookie. When I was a boy, we would eat a bunch and tell people we ate a hundred cookies in one day. Probably not, but it sure was fun trying. Visit Lisa to see the whole collection at http://lisaschaos.com/  It's a lot of fun and the photography is NEATO! :0)

One hundred Danish cookies? Count them if you wish!
My wife also made these cute gingerbread treats! Happy New Year! David :0)

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY ~ SANTA FOUND FACE DOWN! SHOCKING!

I was just having a nice walk around the block when I spotted this unsettling scene:
As I got closer, the gravity of the situation started to sink in...Santa? Santa? Are you okay?
We worked hard to revive him and after a lot of fresh air, I am happy to report that Santa was up and back to his old self.
Merry Christmas!

TRADITIONAL BUNGALOWS AT CHRISTMASTIME HERE IN HOUSTON

The Lights in the Heights Festival is over, but the beautiful lights in these neighborhoods are still up. Go visit when you can. Here's a sample. Tomorrow I'll post some of the decorations you can see during the day. It's a charming walk most anywhere, but Bayland Street or Harvard Street are two great places to start. Happy Holidays!

Google Houston Heights Festival during November of each year to find out the details. Every front porch has something fun like a band, a choir group, or traditional Christmas music.

A VISIT TO A GREAT GUITAR STORE

My son got his early Christmas present....a mustard yellow guitar. He had saved up a lot of money and his Uncle Gary chipped in the rest. Here are pictures from the Guitar Center on Westheimer Street here in Houston. If you ever want to visit, the people there are very friendly and helpful.

This was the most expensive guitar in the Vintage Guitar Area. It must be very special!

DAD'S NEW SWING ~ HAPPY THANKSGIVING

I'll break my 'never see me' rule just this once to show you our wonderful new (and early) Christmas present. Here's my Dad on the swing that he made. It took over 100 hours to build including the frame, roof, and the swing. He's quite a handyman when it comes to tools and craftsmanship.
Thanks, Dad, for this wonderful addition to our home.  Our tropical garden here in Houston is in the background.

VIA COLORI 2010 HOUSTON FESTIVAL

It's FREE, family friendly, and the parking is easy.  The Via Colori Art Festival happens each year in Sam Houston Park adjacent to downtown Houston. It's always the weekend just before Thanksgiving. Street artists are at their best creating chalk drawings on a couple of streets while onlookers get to watch in amazement. We went yesterday and here are some of my favorites.
I love this festival since it's for a good cause (The Center for Speech and Hearing) and it is still relaxed and just the right size for a festival. So many festivals get so outrageously expensive and crowded it's hardly worth the effort. This one is perfect.

                                             This one made my laugh!
A Classic from a famous Japanese Artist
                                                     Starry Night by Van Gogh

                                                  Norman Rockwell entry

Created by one of our famous artist groups...unreal!

                                                          Watch out! Bam!
For a small donation, children can try their hand at art.

GARDEN BUNGALOW BLOG AWARD

Every now and then I just have to stop and give a tip of the trowel to a bungalow gardener. I don't know who the gardener is, but it ALWAYS looks this good. It's the most cheerful yard in my part of Houston!
BEST SMALL BUNGALOW GARDEN in HOUSTON is my award to you! Great job.
